NT partners with Evolution DC (Thailand) to develop innovative data centre infrastructure
National Telecoms Public Company Limited (NT) has signed a cooperation agreement with Evolution DC Thailand Company Limited (EDC) to develop digital infrastructure and drive Thailand towards becoming an ASEAN Digital Hub. EDC have recently formed a joint venture with Central Pattana Public Company Limited (CPN) for the development of a new data centre in Bangkok. EDC is a data centre platform provider that is expanding its business to cover Southeast Asia to develop a data centre with a capacity of more than 30 megawatts. This will serve the needs of cloud computing and data intensive businesses and will help to accelerate Thailand’s digital economy.
Mr. Seikson Mitkasem, Senior Executive Vice President (Marketing and Products) of National Telecom Public Co., Ltd. (NT), said, “NT are delighted to be working closely with EDC as they are a leading data centre platform provider with a clear regional vision. In addition, we also welcome EDC’s joint venture partner CPN who are experts in developing complex projects in high potential locations. As for NT, we have the expertise to provide comprehensive telecommunication network services domestically and internationally with terrestrial cable systems connecting neighbouring countries. With more than 10 points of interconnection and 9 submarine cable systems we connect to multiple regions globally. Our range of communications and digital technology services will help the data centre business to grow by supporting seamless connectivity with network service providers. We believe that this new partnership will provide comprehensive data exchange and connectivity services and strengthen the country’s telecommunication business. This will position Thailand as a centre for information exchange and communications at the regional level and upgrade the country’s digital infrastructure to keep pace with current trends and the needs of users.”
Mr. Phoom Chirathivat, Head of Hotel and Alternative Investments, CPN, said, “This collaboration with NT will help support CPN’s business ecosystem to be strong and sustainable. With the readiness of NT’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure, it will help the data centre business to fully support connections with network service providers and reach large corporate customers with the sustainable data centre to respond to the demands of cloud computing and data storage businesses. Central Pattana has strengths and expertise in developing projects in strategic locations that meet the needs of various businesses. For the development of the data centre, we have a development plan in a location with potential, a suitable environment, high security, and proximity to sources of electrical energy. Our joint venture partner, EDC, has expertise in data centre solutions and experience in business development that is currently expanding across Southeast Asia. This will further enhance CPN’s data centre into a business model of the future in the modern data economy era, which will bring benefits to the country and many other sectors both in terms of opening opportunities to attract foreign investment and supporting digital transformation of both the public and private sectors that have greater demand for data storage services.”
Mr. Darren Webb, Chief Executive Officer of Evolution Data Centres, said, “We are delighted to be working with NT to ensure that our data centre project, located in the heart of Bangkok, will have a comprehensive fibre connectivity that includes terrestrial and submarine cable networks. With support from NT, we are confident that the cooperation from all three parties will be an important part in developing and elevating Thailand towards Thailand’s 4.0 digital transformation. With the cooperation of business leaders from all three organisations, we will make significant progress in developing Thailand’s data centre business into the business model of the future. This will create numerous benefits, improve communications and efficiently enable digital transformation in many sectors.”
